Personalised consultation

Custom picture farming service starts from talking to our valued customer to discuss the whole framing package. Firstly we assess the object brought in to figure out its value, whether monetary or sentimental, or both. We determine the specifics for this item so that we can decide what framing procedure to use.

For example, a mass produced print which is solely used for decorative purposes may be permanently glued in place. While a limited edition print uses a different procedure since the mounting has to be totally reversible to protect the inherent value of the item in question.

Moulding selection

At Orlando Frames, we have over a hundred fine moulding corner samples on hand to choose from. Not too many to confuse and overwhelm, but just enough to make the selection process smooth and simple. We will be there to offer our expert suggestions all throughout the process.

Matboard choices

A matboard's purpose in a framing package is two-fold. First is aesthetics. Since custom framing enhances the artwork, a masterfully selected matboard color combined with correctly proportioned borders will do wonders with your artwork.

The second and more important purpose of a matboard is to protect the art by giving it some space between the art and the glazing. As the framing package hangs on the wall for a period of time, humidity may enter it. This moisture, combined with the nature of the item (eg, a photograph), will result in the item sticking to the inside surface of the glass, therefore damaging it. With a properly installed matboard, this problem is avoided.

At Orlando Frames, we offer a wide selection of matboard colors and styles to choose from.

Glazing options

We have glazing options other than the usual clear and non-glaze: UV-blocking which helps prevent UV from damaging the art. An annoying side effect of UV is quite evident with the fading we see in watercolor on paper.

At Orlando Frames, we use only acid-free and lingin-free materials that won't have any adverse effects to your artwork.  We make sure that the framing package selected adequately supports the item mechanically, and of course we make sure that it will end up aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.

For original works on canvas, we stretch the work carefully around kiln dried strainer bars and complement it with the selected frame.

For original art on paper, we mount the artwork properly to a suitable backing material.  The old and rather damaging practice of gluing it to MDF is unacceptable and is never done by Orlando Frames. For original art, we always suggest UV filtering glass to protect the art against the fading effect of ultra-violet light.

For needlework such as cross stitch, we lace the fabric around a suitable backing to stretch it ready for framing. Lacing is a time-honoured method of stretching needlework into position. This ensures that the needlework is preserved making sure that the framing procedure is totally reversible.

For photographs, extra-careful handling and mounting is required specially for one-of-a-kind photographs. Photographs from modern inkjet printers also need extra-careful handling since sweat from the hands or droplets of moisture from a sneeze will damage the surface of the photograph.

For prints, we properly mount them to a suitable backing using the dry cold press method to prevent them buckling as time goes by.

For objects, we securely mount them using the correct and safe methods ensuring that the object can be preserved and at the same time displayed for all to admire, instead of it stuck in an old bedroom drawer. This is all fit inside a custom-designed shadowbox which is unique for each object frame.

Frame cleaning and repair

Many factors cause picture frames to become damaged. It may be a fall from a wall, improper packaging when moving or just the normal motion of the frame as it ages. We can do simple repair jobs, glass replacement, or re-frames. Of course, highly valuable works and more ornate frame repair jobs will have to be referred to a qualified conservator for more specialist attention.
