Repairing Framed Art |
| This is an original
pastel titled "Beware 1994". This came in bad
condition, the glass broken, matboard all warped up and
faded, the corners of the frame all gaping and the
mitres loose. The owner requested for the existing
moulding be repaired instead of choosing a new one since
it is still in good condition and can be recycled. The
frame was dismantled and cleaned, the mitres re-cut to
expose new timbre to allow for the new v-nails and glue.
Non-reflective glass was used to control reflection and
to mask the little damage done to the surface of the
paper when the glazing broke originally. MDF, which is
harmful to art it being full of acid, was replaced by
acid-free foam core board as the backing. The artwork
was properly hinged to the backing using acid-free paper
tape, replacing the brittle masking tape whose use is a
mortal sin in framing as it is so damaging to artwork
not to mention that its adhesive won't last. A very good
example of repairing framed art. |
